The House of Representatives has called on the Federal Government to increase commercial activities across the country through effective and improved railway system; hinting that the railway transportation system is one of the best and cost effective means of conveying goods and services for commercial purposes from one place to another, Hon. Chris Azubogu through his motion of matter of urgent public importance prayed the House at plenary on Wednesday, November 30, 2016 to mandate its Committees on Land Transport and Appropriations to extend its legislative attention towards ensuring that all railways, particularly the Port Harcourt-Warri-Kaduna rail line are urgently revived and commissioned for services. The lawmaker spoke passionately about the matter to secure unanimous resolution mandating the relevant Committees to ensure legislative compliance to the prayers of the motion. Soyinka Discards U.S Green. Green Card

Professor Wole Soyinka Nobel laureate, Professor Wole Soyinka has reportedly carried out his threat to throw away his United States residency green card and leave the country if Donald Trump defeats Hilary Clinton. “I have already done it, I have disengaged (from the United States). I have done what I said I would do,” Soyinka was quoted as saying at a conference in South Africa. “I had a horror of what is to come with Trump… I threw away the (green) card, and I have relocated, and I’m back to where I have always been,” added according to an agency report. He however said he would not discourage others from applying for a green card.

Senate Orders NCC To Halt Plan To Increase Data Tariff

    The Red Chamber has deliberated upon and passed a Motion titled “Planned Increase of Data Tariff effective from December 1, 2016 by the National Communications Commission (NCC)”. The Motion moved by Sen. Bala Ibn Na’ Allah sought and secured the leave of the Senate to debate it; coming under point of order 42. He drew the attention of the Upper Legislative Chamber to the subject matter and urged it to halt the action. The Motion was supported by Sen. Dino Melaye and Sen. Sulaiman Hunkuyi, and ultimately sailed through with a single prayer below:   1) The NCC should henceforth reverse its decision on the planned increase of Data Tariff. IDP Camp in the North Eastern part of Nigeria No fewer than 5, 000 Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) in 27 camps in embattled Borno state in northeast Nigeria are currently living with HIV/AIDS. Mr Hassan Mustapha, the Coordinator on HIV/AIDS in Borno, said on Thursday that most of the patients were women who were rescued from captivity in Boko Haram camps. The coordinator, however, said that some of those affected were not effectively accessing anti retroviral therapy because of stigmatisation. He lamented that many of them had died of the scourge because they were not properly counselled and sensitised on the need to enrol under the HIV/AIDS control programme. “We have more than 1, 000 patients in Bama camp and 3, 000 in Gwoza camp while over 1, 000 others are taking refuge in the host communities. “We have heard of many supporting NGOs in Borno but none of them has approached us to offer assistance to the IDPs living with the virus. “The IDPs livi

Mrs. Sally Mbanefo has been sacked as the Director General of the Nigeria Tourism Development Corporation (NTDC). Her removal was transmitted via a memo signed on November 27 by the Secretary to the Federal Government (SGF) , David Babachir Lawal.   Mbanefo had on Tuesday presided over her last official engagement, when she addressed tourism stakeholders at the Nigerian Tourism Investment Forum and Exhibition, held at Sheraton Hotel, Abuja. The forum was attended by the Minister of Information and Culture, Lai Mohammed and the Ethiopian Ambassador to Nigeria, Mrs. Samia Zekaria, among other dignitaries. The theme of the forum was: “Tourism: A tool for Economic Recovery and Development.” Her disengagement letter which Lawal signed, directed Mbanefo to hand over the running of the corporation to the most senior officer by yesterday. Again, court throws out Nnamdi Kalu's bail application

Nnamdi Kalu- IPOB Leader Justice Binta Nyako of the Federal‎ High Court,Abuja has turned down bail application for the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, Nnamdi Kanu and three other accused persons. Ruling on the application for bail filed by Counsel to Kanu, Ifeanyi Ejiofor, on Thursday, she held that the offences the defendants — Kanu, Benjamin Nmadubugwu, Chidiebere Onwudiwe and David Nwawusi — were charged with were not entirely bailable. She said the charge of treasonable felony, which hands on the necks of the defendants, attracts‎ a life sentence. The team, which defeated the Banyana Banyana of South Africa 1-0 to qualify for the final of the championship, had left their Parliamentarian Flat hotel in Buea at 6.00 a.m. and arrived in Douala for their flight to Yaoundé. They were scheduled to depart Douala at 9.00 a.m. for the state capital, a journey of about 45 minutes by air and about four hours by road.
