Ondo Updates: Oke Olushola Raises Alarm Over The Malfunctioning of Card Readers

 Given a State election where the number of registered voters is estimated to be exactly 1.2 million voters, and INEC's refusal to postpone the much talked about possible outcomes and lapses, the candidate of the Alliance for Democracy, Mr. Olusola Oke, has cried out over the alleged malfunctioning of card readers in some polling units in Ilaje Local Government Area of the state. He mentioned that many polling stations in places like Idi Ogba, Ode Ugbo and Alagbon in Ilaje LGA had malfunctioned card readers. He called on the Independent National Electoral Commission to find solution to it so that some voters will not be disenfranchised. However, the Resident Electoral Commissioner in the state, Mr. Segun Agbaje said the development was a minor error which would soon be corrected. “It is a minor error, our technical people will move to the area to correct it”

FG Partners United Nations To End Child Marriage

The UN Population Fund (UNFPA) in collaboration with Federal Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Development is working to end child marriage in Nigeria, a statement has said. The statement, issued by Ms Kori Habib, Media and Communication Advisor, UNFPA Nigeria in Abuja on Friday, said the two agencies are taking practical steps to end the practice in Nigeria. She said the action was in line with Common African Position on Ending Child Marriage in Africa, which was adopted by the AU Assembly of Heads of States and Government in June, 2015. She said the agency has planned that the campaign along with the National Strategy document (2016 – 2020). According to her, 43 per cent of Nigerian girls get married under the age of 18, while 17 per cent of the 43 per cent get married earlier than they reach 15 years. There was palpable tension in Ondo State yesterday as residents prepare to exercise their franchise to elect the next governor of the state. All public institutions and banks were closed while the state government declared public holiday for the students and civil servants to prepare for the election. The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) had promised a level playing field for the 28 registered political parties and their candidates that will participate in today’s election.
