Lionel Messi has not played since tearing a knee ligament in a league game on Sept. 26. Credit Sergio Perez/Reuters  After almost two months on the sidelines, Lionel Messi could be ready to return to the field for Barcelona — perhaps even in time for a Clásico showdown at Real Madrid on Saturday. Messi has not played since tearing a knee ligament less than 10 minutes into a league game on Sept. 26. News of the injury no doubt worried Barcelona fans, but since the injury the club is 5-1 in the Spanish league and 3-0 in the Champions League. Barcelona has opened a 3-point lead over Real Madrid at the top of La Liga through 11 games heading into this weekend’s match, as its other two attacking stars, Neymar and Luis Suárez, have filled the gap with 10 goals each since Messi’s injury. Real had been keeping pace until a 3-2 loss at Sevilla on Nov. 8, and the Spanish news media is already piling the pressure on Manager Rafa Benítez. Should Real lose on Saturday, the pres

Nigeria Governors’ Forum is worried that more states may not be able to pay workers’ salaries if the revenue of the country continues to be on the decline, its Chairman, Governor Abdul’aziz Yari of Zamfara, has said. Mr. Yari made the statement while briefing journalists on the resolutions of the forum at its meeting in Abuja late on Wednesday. He said the forum discussed the economy and resolved to look for means to enhance states internally generated revenues as well to cut overhead cost, especially the salaries of political office holders. The governor said the forum also resolved to diversify the country’s economy from petroleum to agriculture and mining. “The situation is no longer the same when we are used to pay N18, 000 minimum wage when oil was 126 dollars; now oil price is 41 dollars. “We are coming together in a roundtable with President Muhammadu Buhari and his team of ministers, technocrats, economic experts to see how we can tackle our situation,’’ he said

Kemi Adeosun- Finance Minister The Economist, English newspaper,  took a swipe at new minister , stating that she poorly qualified to manage the country’s economy. In its assessment on the ministers of President Muhammadu Buhari, the newspaper defined Okechukwu Enelamah, the minister for trade and investment, as “ a respected businessman ”, but stated that he “ may lack the clout to stand up to the president”. “Africa’s biggest economy, which relies on oil for 70% of its revenue, is sputtering as prices fall. Economic policy has been adrift since Mr Buhari came to power, and investors complain about the central bank’s use of trade controls and import restrictions,”  it reads . “However, the new finance minister, an accountant who cleaned up the books of one of Nigeria’s smaller states, is poorly qualified for the job. “Her counterpart in the investment ministry is a respected businessman, but he may lack the clout to stand up to a president with statist leanings.
